SPACE TREAT: Spring Cleaning? Bah Humbug.

Spring cleaning. Ah. The ability to open windows, let in fresh air, and then… spend hours spring cleaning inside.

We don’t think so. As we’re trapped indoors for the snowiest winter of our lives, the key is to make use of cozy indoor time to root out worn clothing; edit your kitchen or bathroom cabinets or linen closet; or dive into your storage unit and deal with decisions you’ve put off for months. You’ve got two months left. Why not put it to good use?

That way, when spring finally ‘springs,’ you can do “spring-like” things. Brunch at an outdoor cafĂ©. Shop the farmers market. Prep your beach house for summer.

Best of all, you won’t be wasting great weather hunting for your gardening trowel, or clearing out your garage. You can wheel out your bikes and rollerblades-right away. While everyone else is digging under winter debris for tennis rackets and sunblock, you are doing figure eights along Riverside Park and congratulating yourself on time well spent.

No one knows exactly where spring cleaning originated way back when. But in the not-so-long-ago days of coal and wood-fired heating, the beginning of spring marked the height of soot-and the first opportunity to shake out your rugs, blankets and coats.

Nowadays? Mother Nature has teamed up with Con Edison to make sure you make the best use of winter. Consider tackling one project a weekend. By the time the birds start singing, you’ll want to sing right along. Outdoors!

If you like the idea but you’re daunted by the task, give us a call. Schedule a session or two to get a jump on spring cleaning – the organizing way! It’s sure to be the most liberating few hours you spend this winter not staring at the next snow storm… and wondering if spring will ever arrive.

Hurry! It’ll be here before you know it –
